TOPIC: Environmental hazards.

P: G305 or G315 or consent of instructor.

This section of G440 is designed primarily for undergraduate students but
graduates are welcome. The topic for this semester is environmental or
natural hazards such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, or droughts. We
will be concerned with their impacts on the human populations who live in
their paths, human reactions to these hazards, and how their harmful
effects might be mitigated.

Course requirements include two substantial research papers: one on natural
hazards in a particular region or country and the other on one hazard
across regions or countries.
