S425 Spanish Phonetics (3 credits) BY AUTHORIZATION ONLY
P: S311 or equivalent
The primary goals of this course are to provide an understanding
of Spanish phonetics and pronunciation problems and to help
students improve their own pronunciation of Spanish. The course
will provide an understanding of how the sounds of Spanish differ
from those of English. It will also look at pronunciation problems
based on spelling differences and dialectal variation. S425 is
highly recommended for teacher certification and will also be of
interest to students wishing to improve their own pronunciation.
One segment of the course is devoted to small group and/or
individual practice sessions. Student performance will be evaluated
on the basis of several quizzes, a midterm and final exam, homework,
and class participation. Maximum enrollment will be 20 students.
PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO SENIORS. See Karla Allgood in
BH844 for authorization.
