This course continues the examination of Spanish American literature in the
last half of the 20th century from the immediate post-war years until the
present. Topics to be covered include the coming of age of fiction --both
novel and short story--, the rise of experimental drama, the poetry of the
later Neruda and his contemporaries, and the role of the writer as
critic and self-critic from Carpentier forward.
Students will write three short papers (5 pp.) due at five-week intervals.
