This course studies Jewish life from the Middle Ages to our own time. We
will study the political and legal status of the Jews in medieval Europe;
Jewish-Christian relations; the role of Jews in the European economy;
Jewish emancipation; modern antisemitism; the destruction of European
Jewry; Jewish life in the United States; Zionism, and the State of Israel.
History H251 is not a prerequisite for this course. There will be three
examinations. The readings include collections of original documents and
books about medieval Jewish life, modern Jewish politics, and the history
of antisemitism.
