Course Description:
C403 is a course in the methods of health education for senior division undergraduates preparing for an entry-level job in health education. As such it concentrates on the most fundamental of all health education skills, the ability to plan and present pr ograms. To help build student capacity in program planning, the course utilizes a series of practical hands-on exercises. To facilitate progress toward the different professional objectives of students, students are allowed to pick their own area of progr am development. As most health promotion planning is a group activity, students typically work on projects in small groups.

Course Objectives:
1. Understand the relationship between the PRECEDE model, other planning models, and the steps of problem solving.
2. Describe in detail the PRECEDE model.
3. Describe several need assessment methods.
4. Define common epidemiological terms used in program planning.
5. Identify the source of national health care objectives.
6. Describe a health problem in the form required for a written program plan.
7. Use library resources to identify articles for use in health program planning.
8. Write program planning goals and objectives in standard form.
9. Increase presentation-making skills.
10. Produce a high-quality health program plan presentation.
11. Develop an awareness of the importance of teamwork in working on community health planning.
