COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A critical examination of selected intra-individual and interpersonal theories and models of health behavior which are relevant to the practice of health promotion. Students will be expected to determine which theories or models are most or least appropri
ate for given target populations, intervention settings and resources, and health problems. The content will focus on models of individual and interpersonal health behavior since other courses cover community intervention models.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, students shall be able to describe the components, processes, and underlying assumptions inherent in each model or theory covered in class. Students shall also be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of using a given the
oretical approach in any particular health promotion program and, given a health problem, be able to select and apply models of behavior change to that problem.
