COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Beginning instruction in the principles of fitness through a cycling
program. Proper riding
technique, safety, and other features of competitive and recreational
cycling. Lecture only; class
meets once per week.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Topics will include:
Introduction:
Rules, riding alone, riding in a group, riding at night
Physiology 1: What happens when you exercise? Blood flow, ventilation and
oxygen transport.
Physiology 2: What should you eat and drink? Food and fluid replacement.
Conditioning and
training
VO2 Max Test
Midterm Exam
Choosing a bike and bike fit. Equipment and latest technology.
Repair and maintenance
Mechanics and technique
Injuries, overtraining and annoyances
Ultra-marathoning and triathlon racing
Review training homework and critique workouts
Final Exam
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) unexcused absences. Upon a
fourth absence, a
student has three (3) options:
1. receive a grade of F;
2. officially withdraw from the class or;
3. follow an appeal procedure through your instructor and/or the Elective
Program Coordinator
GRADING POLICY:
Midterm Exam (25%), Final Exam (25%), Training Project (50%).
