E371 Advanced Scuba, or Advanced Scuba certification (Rescue specialty

CLASS MEETING:
Meets one 60 minute period per week.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Divemaster scuba certification program for recreational divers. Program
includes lecture, pool,
and open water sessions to enable students to obtain Professional
Association of Diving
Instructors (PADI) international Divemaster Certification.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
Develop knowledge, skills, and teaching methods, as recommended by national
scuba certification
organizations, for Divemaster certification. Organize apprentice time for
Divemaster students to
facilitate their professional membership in the recreational dive industry.

CLASS PROCEDURE:
Students will meet during the regular scheduled time, additionally, students
will arrange lecture,
pool, and open water sessions for completion of program.
Lecture sessions - Introduction, Scuba Rescue, Group Management, Equipment,
Boat & Beach
Diving, Diving Physics and Physiology, Marine Life, Teaching Methods. Pool
sessions -
Watermanship, basic skills, advanced skills, rescue, teaching methods. Open
water sessions -Ten
observations, Scuba Rescue, Standard Skills, Specialty Skills, Dive
Management and Safety.
Apprentice time - Students will arrange apprentice time, based on their
specific interest, to
complete requirements for qualified and certified Divecon.
GRADING POLICY:
Attendance, assigned homework, final exam, and pool skills.
ATTENDANCE:
Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) absences. Upon a fourth absence
the student has
three (3) options:
1. receive a grade of F;
2. officially withdraw from the course;
3. follow an appeal procedure through your instructor and/or the Elective
Program Coordinator.
SPECIAL FEE:
E470 lab fee of $295 must be paid to the Bursar's Office, and receipt shown
to the instructor by
the second week of class. Students will be registered Divemaster Trainees,
with PADI.
EQUIPMENT:
Divemaster participants are expected to have all required equipment to
perform duties as a
professional member of the recreational sport diving industry. Basic
equipment provided for pool
and open water sessions. Participants are required to meet with the
Instructor-Trainer to review
their personal equipment needs.
