The Germ Theory will satisfy COAS students' intensive writing requirement while introducing
the concepts, biographies, experiments, and public reception of biomedical research supporting
the "germ theory of disease." Thus, this is a course focused on the production and reception of
knowledge about infectious diseases over the past 200 years. Here we will study how ideas are
produced and accepted, rather than a "plagues and peoples" survey of human experience with
disease.
