Journalism | Issues in New Communication Technologies
J530 | 6396 | Ogan

The course will consider some of the political, economic, social,
philosophical, policy, and educational issues involved in the
introduction, diffusion and use of communication technologies.
Theoretical methodological aspects of research of the uses and potential
effects of these technologies will also be discussed. We will focus
particularly on the rapid growth and change in the Internet, addressing
the economic, political and social implications of both the internet and
the information superhighway. The reading and discussion of empirical,
critical and cultural approaches to the subject, and the writing of a
paper treating an issue related to one or more of the technologies will
constitute the bulk of the work in the class.
