Instructor: Brian Serot (serot@iucf.indiana.edu) Brief description: We will cover chapters 7 through 9 in the text: Quantum Theory of Many-Particle Systems, by A. L. Fetter and J. D. Walecka (McGraw-Hill, 1971). We will also study the time-path (Schwinger-Keldysh) formalism for finite-temperature systems in equilibrium. Finally, path-integral methods will be introduced. The course grade will be based on homework assignments due roughly every week. There will be no midterm or final exams.
