This course will cover the Standard Model of Particle Physics and
some of its possible extensions. Emphasis will be on the Lagrangian
of the Standard Model, its symmetries, and how the model relates to the
particles and their interactions. We shall cover some of
the experimental confirmations of the theory, as well as areas in
which there can be further tests of the theory within the next few
years. Although there is currently no exerimental result that
is in disagreement with the Standard Model, there are still
many open questions that we plan to explore.
Experimentalists who complete this course should be in a good position to
understand current developments in the field, and theorists who do so,
and have completed a course in quantum field theory, should be prepared
to begin thesis research.
