R372 Justice, Care and Gender (3 Cr.) - Mongoven TR 9:30-10:45 PY 109
This course explores the "ethic of care," and the disputed relationship
between "care" and "justice". What is justice? What is care? Why is
"care" the subject of extended conversation now, particularly but not
exclusively among both religions and secular "feminists"? We will
consider justice, care, and gender in a number of spheres: in close
personal relationships as we discuss challenges of intimacy; in the
secular public as we assess the proper domain of politics; and in
Christian ethics as we analyze various interpretations of "sin," "the
cross," and "love." Specific ethical issues on the syllabus will include
sexual violence, parenting, militarism, and the "glass ceiling."
