S302 Bureaucracies Garnier 2:30-3:45 TR 3618

Bureaucracies are decried by everybody. The purpose of this
course is to assist students in understanding the forces both
external and internal which determines the ways in which
bureaucracies operate.

We will examine some general theories as well as concrete cases:
businesses, government, education, military organization etc. We
will discuss some experiments in bureaucratic arrangements, such
as worker's participation in decision-making both in the United
States and in other settings.

The course will require a rather substantial amount of reading
and the active participation of students either as individual or
as members of study groups.
