Racial and ethnic identities continue to be important
determinants of the life chances of individuals. This course
will examine the forces that shape the creation and maintenance
of racial identities and inequalities in the United States, and
the linkages between the two. We will focus on identifying and
explaining the factors and mechanisms that maintain social
boundaries between racial and ethnic groups in the United States.
Or simply, what keeps different race and ethnic groups from
getting along. In addition, what can you and I do to change
this?
