COAS INTENSIVE WRITING SECTION AND ALSO REQUIRES REGISTRATION IN
COAS W333

The course is organized around five theoretical traditions that
have profoundly shaped both modern sociology and, more generally,
contemporary social and political discourse: rational choice,
Durkheimian, Marxian, Weberian, and symbolic interactionist
theory. Our focus will be on the original works of the major
theorists, but we will briefly consider a few contemporary
developments within each tradition. The course will emphasize
ongoing written and oral student interaction with these social
theories.
