The course is designed for students with no previous knowledge of American
Sign language (ASL).  During the course, students will acquire a
vocabulary of basic signs.  Basic morphological processes and basic
aspects of syntax will also be presented.  Students will be introduced to
the proper use of non-manual signs and will be exposed to the cultural
aspects of ASL.  This course will not count as part of the 42 credit hours
taken in the department by SPHS majors.
