A four-week long, introductory-level, field course will introduce a
small diverse group of undergraduate students to the geology and
natural history of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountain chain of
eastern California. We will explore the geological processes and
natural history of one of the most geologically and biologically
dynamic parts of the continent, as well as the natural hazards and
environmental issues facing a unique and environmentally sensitive
area of the western U.S. The course will be taught as part of Summer
I session. The class will meet in Bloomington May 6 - 16, followed by
a 2-week field excursion to the Sierra Nevada, May 19 - June 2, 2001.
No previous science background required. For detailed course and
