COAS INTENSIVE WRITING SECTION
In this course we will read, discuss, and write about novels and short
stories to examine the formal elements of literature (voice,
narrative, character, etc.) through themes of American identity. The
reading list will tentatively include the works of Junot Diaz, Danzy
Senna, Thomas Glave, and Raymond Carver, among others.
This is a discussion-based course, so attendance and participation is
mandatory. You will be assigned frequent exercises, short response
papers, and three formal four-page papers.
