This course is designed to address a range of issues that will
confront students and caregivers of our elder population. The issues
will deal with the growing population of older adults in
communities. Communities include a range of older adults who live
independently to those who require skilled care.
This course will address issues of diversity of our aging population
and their demographics, the role of the community in care of older
adults, identification of best practices in care of older adults such
as; depression and dementia, incontinence, nutrition, polypharmacy,
teaching older adults, mistreatment, falls, and ethical issues.
The course will employ outside experiences to best facilitate
learning and interaction with older adults, as well as guest
speakers, and some group work.
This course will use the textbook "Better Elder Care."
