Political Science | The American Presidency
Y318 | 0506 | Morehouse
The Presidency is the most visible aspect of our government, but what
does the president do? This course will start by examining the role
of the president, historically and the evolution to the modern day
president, including the presidential selection process. Following
from there, the course will then shift attention to different
leadership models and explore how leadership style affects the job
the president does. Are some presidents more effective because of
personality traits, or are there other specific traits some
presidents have that make them more effective leaders. Readings will
draw on autobiographies and biographies of past presidents to explore
their leadership style. In addition each student will become more or
less and expert on a president and his leadership style in order to
write a final paper as well as lead class discussion about that
president. Overall, students should leave this course understanding
more about the role and job of the president and factors of
presidential effectiveness.
