L105 | 0424 | Schonemann
LESA L105, Beyond the Sample Gates, 3 credits, fulfills the Topics
requirement for the College of Arts and Sciences and is an SH
distribution course. It is a service learning-course that requires
weekly service in a community organization. It is the introductory
course for the minor in Leadership, Ethics, and Social Action.
Course topics include models of community, diversity, ethical
decision-making, citizenship and leadership, community concerns, and
social action. Multiple perspectives on community service will be
critically examined. Service in a community organization becomes
another text, used with assigned readings, dialogue, visits from
community leaders, and student experience, as a basis for reflective
learning and critical thinking.
