Gender Studies | Themes in the Study of Gender: Public Culture and Sexuality
G205 | 26903 | Comella

This course examines the production and circulation of sexual
meanings, identities, values, and knowledge across a number of
different cultural forms and commercial spaces, from music videos and
pornography to strip clubs and sex toy stores. We will investigate
the relationship between public culture and sexuality from the
perspective of history, economics, fantasy, sexual education, labor
relations, taste culture, and public policy considerations, and
explore the types of messages about sex, gender, race, and class
available to us in the public sphere. May be repeated with a
different topic for a maximum of 6 credit hours.
