P101, Introductory Psychology provides an introduction to the vast,
multi-faceted, and extremely interesting scientific study of
psychology, the study of the brain, behavior, cognition, and the
relations among them. We will be discussing an extremely broad array
of topics in this course: What are the biological foundations of
behavior and mind? How do we learn? What affects our memory? How is
knowledge organized in the brain? How is it that we can comprehend
and produce language? How do we make decisions? How do we perceive
the world? How do we sometimes misperceive the world? What can go
wrong in the brain, and how can we help those who have had something
go wrong? There is no field of study as broad as psychology, and
none as fascinating or challenging. I hope during the course of the
semester to impart to students some of my own interest in it.
