T314 Telecommunications Processes and Effects
Class Number 4961

8:55am - 10:10am daily

Course Description

Prerequisites:
Tel T205 or consent of instructor

Course Objectives:
Examination of the ways in which the mass media affect our lives.
Central topics will include: how and when media change our
attitudes, what they teach us about the world, how we pay attention
to television and the Internet, how we respond emotionally, and how
we decide what is real. We will explore why your experiences with
television and the media -- or the experiences of your friends and
family -- don't tell us much about media processes and effects. The
course will rely upon empirical research with an emphasis on the
effects on individuals, although discussion will include groups,
organizations, and social norms.
