COLLEGE INTENSIVE WRITING SECTION
This section of L204 will begin with the oldest epic,
Gilgamesh, and then jump to the twentieth century where we’ll
read two short comic masterpieces, Amos Tutuola’s Palm-Wine
Drinkard and William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying. Then
we’ll proceed to the Heath Introduction to Fiction and read and
analyze several dozen short stories from the late nineteenth to the
late twentieth century. Written work for the course will consist of
three short (3-5 page) critical essays, a final test, and a final
creative project, a 6-10 page short story, which will be photocopied
by each student and distributed to all members of the class for
discussion.
