Sociology | Introduction to Sociology
S100 | 9363 | Harger

In this class, you will be introduced to basic sociological concepts,
theories, and principles, and will learn to apply these ideas to the
world around you. Rather than using a traditional textbook, the core
of the class is organized around two autobiographies and one case
study, to which we will apply the sociological concepts discussed in
class. Through these readings, we will examine the ways in which
individual actions and decisions (or human agency) are enabled,
constrained, and informed by the social contexts (or structures) that
exist in our society. By analyzing the readings in this way, you
will learn to think critically and apply your sociological knowledge
to your own social world.
