Y360 analyzes the rise of America’s global leadership during the
post-1945 era, its role in changing the international political and
economic system and the subsequent challenges to that leadership
during the last four decades. After a short introduction to the
methodology of analyzing foreign policy, we will cover three major
issue areas: 1) the emergence of a U.S. internationalist role and
the debate between liberals, realists and neo-conservatives; 2) the
role of governmental institutions and actors in the policy-making
process; and 3) the future of American foreign policy in a post-Cold
War environment as reflected in the issue fields of security,
environmental and health policies.
