W350 2098 ADVANCED EXPOSITORY WRITING
Dana Anderson

10:20a-11:35a D (25 students) 3 cr., IW.

PREREQUISITE: COMPLETION OF THE ENGLISH COMPOSITION REQUIREMENT.

COLLEGE INTENSIVE WRITING SECTION.

This course emphasizes practical strategies for critical thinking
and analytical writing. Through three longer essays and various
shorter writing assignments, students will work to gain a greater
awareness and a more nuanced control of their own writing process.
In addition, they will also develop a practical toolkit of skills—
rhetorical skills—upon which all clear and persuasive writing
depends, including strategies for managing tone and style
effectively in prose. Texts for analysis will include critical
essays of various topics and a film. All of this will be much more
fun than it sounds.

This course fulfills The College of Arts and Sciences intensive
writing (IW) requirement, and it is also a requirement for the
Public and Professional Writing concentration within the English
major.
