Course format: Daily lectures (10:20A-11:35A, JH A106) with some discussion
incorporated.
Requirements: Biol. L211 is a necessary prerequisite.
Course description: L312 builds on L211 and considers the structures and
functions of cellular organelles and molecular components. Emphasis is
placed on the flow of information through the cell, the regulation of
subcellular processes, and the metabolism that supports cellular functions.
Some attention is given to current techniques used by cell substantiate
hypotheses. Comparisons and contrasts are often made between plants,
animals, and procaryotes.
Required text: "The Cell: A Molecular Approach" by G. Cooper.
Weekly assignments: Read from text before and after lectures.
Exams/papers: Two one-hour exams and a comprehensive final.
