S491 is a photography production course which utilized the computer as an additional tool for
image making. While photographic manipulation and photo collage are well established
techniques in the production of photographs, manipulation has never been so readily accessible
to such a broad spectrum of the public. This course will explore the history of photographic
manipulation and speculate on what the future might hold for the photographic medium.
Students will be working primarily with the Adobe Photoshop application. Page layout programs
and the creation of World Wide Web pages will also be discussed as a means of displaying
work. While it is assumed that students have a firm knowledge of the technical controls of
photography, no prior experience with computers is expected. Prerequisite: S392 or permission
of instructor. Prerequisite: S392 or permission of instructor.
