TOPIC: Golden Age Poetry
This course is designed to explore Spanish Golden Age poetry by means of
an examination of the following topics:
The Spanish Golden Age: Ideas and attitudes
The Spanish Renaissance and the reform and renovation of poetry
Petrarch's influence in Spain
Garcilaso (and Boscán)
16th century poetry after Garcilaso
Salamanca and Seville–Luis de León, Herrera
Mystics–Santa Teresa and San Juan de la Cruz
17th Century Poetry
Góngora
Lope de Vega
Quevedo
The great themes of lyric poetry: time, love, nature, myth, religion

Epic poetry (and the mock epic)
