Political Science | The American Presidency
Y318 | 1463 | Mealy

As we approach the end of the 20th Century, it is only fitting that
this course is designed to provide you with an understanding of the
(sometimes) changing face of the American Presidency. This course will
explore the selection processes, presidential power, and the institution of
the presidency. Presidential campaigns and elections will be studied, as
well as an examination of presidential duties and responsibilities both
foreign and domestic. A central focus will be placed upon the role of
public opinion, perceptions of presidential qualifications and the upcoming
2000 Presidential Election. The course is designed as a combination of
lecture and class discussion.
Grades are based upon exams and short (in class and take home)
writing assignments. A basic understanding of American government is
expected.
