Philosophy | Thinking and Reasoning
P105 | 4538 | Keele

This class will equip the student with techniques and tools for evaluating arguments,
whatever his/her particular field happens to be. Learn how to analyze and critique
reasoning systematically and effectively, and amaze your friends with your command of
such topics as validity, fallacy detection, syllogisms, etc. This is an excellent course for
those who want to go into law, business, medicine, or any of the traditional humanities or
sciences. Since good reasoning is necessary for excellence in any discipline, success in
this class will insure excellence in your field as well. (NOTE: The previous statement
contains a fallacious inference – unless you can say what that fallacy is and why it is a
bad piece or reasoning, you need this class.)

Work involves textbook and internet exercises, and two exams.
