The Course Description:
So just what is interior design?  Is it different from interior
decoration?  What about all the home-improvement shows on
television?  Entertainment?  Fact?  Learn how to recognize the
difference, and in the process you’ll become a more educated
consumer of interior design services and products.  Become more
aware of your surroundings both aesthetically and functionally by
learning about the fundamental elements and principles which are the
underlying guide to the practice of interior design.
Course Topics include:
•	Introduction:	
o	Interior Design Practice and Process
o	Historical Overview
•	Foundations of Design
o	Design Judgment
o	Elements of Design:  Space, Form, Line, Texture, Light, Color
o	Principles of Design:  Balance, Rhythm, Emphasis, Scale,
Proportion, Harmony
•	Designing Residential Spaces
•	Interior Components & Treatments
Topics will be supported by quizzes, tests, and practical
application assignments (requiring both inside and outside class
activity).

NOTE: This course does not count toward the Baccalaureate degree in
interior design at Indiana University.
