Y396 | 6039 | Ricks

This Course surveys and analyzes the literature on racial and ethnic
minority politics in the US. We seek to study the efforts of
minority groups to achieve their political goals/objectives in a
governmental system predicated on majority rule. The class will gain
both a theoretical understanding and empirical grounding in the
politics of racial and ethnic minority groups in America. In this
course we will use a comparative approach to explore theories of
racial formation and the ways in which race and ethnicity matter for
political incorporation and the American political system. The class
will focus on current issues and events related to racial and ethnic
politics in the US.
