Sociology | Introduction to Sociology

It is often said that sociology is nothing but common sense. This
course, however, will challenge that notion by looking at the non-
rational bases of society. We will do this by addressing a broad
range of sociological issues under the larger headings of race,
class, and gender differences; religion; crime; and politics through
popular movies and music as well as more traditional texts and
media. After taking this course, it is my hope that you will be able
to question the taken-for-granted explanations of social action and
critically examine the worlds in which we live.
