Anthropology | Intro to Soc & Cultural Anthropology
E303 | 5024 | Ricke
This course will introduce non-majors to the many facets of
socio-cultural anthropology. Throughout the course, we will be
investigating how the issues of social organization, politics,
economics, religion, art, identity, and globalization are dealt with
by a variety of cultural groups. In order to understand how
socio-cultural anthropology approaches these topics today, we will
look into the history of anthropology as well as the theory and
methods anthropologists employ for understanding the world and how
others perceive it. Some of the theoretical paradigms that will be
covered in this course include ecological and cognitive anthropology.
By the end of this course, you will not only have a better idea of how
other cultural groups conceptualize and order the world, but also how
this knowledge can enrich your program of study.
