A200 | 4860 | Maurer, M

This course will examine how issues of gender and sexuality are at
work in the art and architecture of the Italian Renaissance and
Baroque eras. We will explore gender and sexuality as cultural
constructs, and investigate the ways these ideas are reflected in and
created by works of art and architecture in Italy from the years
1400-1650. This course will address themes such as the gender and
sexuality of artists and patrons, gendered constructions of space, and
erotic works of art. We will look at works by artists such as
Donatello, Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi.
