Y105 | 13369 | Katherine Scofield

This course is an introduction to political theory and will focus on
the following thinkers: Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke,
Rousseau, and Mill. Readings will include selections from these
thinkersí works, as well as modern interpretations of these theoristsí
writings. The goal of the course is to use these canonical authors to
discuss major themes that are still of concern to social scientists
today, such as, the nature of the best regime, the pros and cons of
democratic government, political participation, social contract
theory, and individual rights.
