Religious Studies | Introduction to Islam
A270 | 13186 | H. Lachheb
In this class we will broadly examine the Islamic tradition from its genesis to its contemporary
manifestations. Starting by identifying the tenets, rituals, practices, scriptures and sentiments
that have made Islam the collective imaginary for more than 1.3 billion followers. In this class
we will also track the major historical “parcours,” voices, issues and attitudes that still have
great impact on the ongoing debates and tensions within the Islamic tradition today.
