"Sociology is the study of human society and social life – their
structures, patterns, and problems. More than the study of facts,
sociology is a perspective through which to understand social
behavior. The goals of this course are to introduce you to the field
of sociology and some of its major concepts and guiding theories; to
apply the sociological perspective to past and contemporary societies,
and to our own lives; and to critically analyze the relationship
between the individual and society. To do this, we will explore how
sociology addresses diverse issues including race, class, gender,
sexuality, politics, religion, education, and inequality."
