Lectures are geared to the political, constitutional, and economic bases
of American history from the colonial period to the Civil War, stressing
such events and movements as the Revolution, the Constitution, growth of
political parties, wars (1812, Mexican, and Civil), economic
controversies, and slavery. There will be regular self-grading quizzes on
the readings, in addition to a one-hour mid-term examination and a
two-hour final examination.
