  • Aims of workshop

  • Introduction of participants
  • Format of workshop and program schedule

    • question lists and poster forms

 

Course Portfolio Review as Group Interactions

  • Welcome to Day 2
  • Review of selected UNL course portfolios:
    • assessment of strengths and weaknesses of individual examples
    • evidence of excellence in teaching
    • criteria used in your review process

 

2:30–3:00pm

Conversations

  • Preparation of a one-page draft outline of your course portfolio, comprising:
    • personal information: name, rank, department
    • class profile: level, size, etc.
    • course contents, teaching strategies, assessment methods, problems, etc.
    • statement about fundamental teaching goal that will be addressed in the course portfolio

 

Plenary Session

  • Presentation and discussion of course portfolio reviews:
    • posting of one-page summaries of reviews from group interactions
    • illustration of examples of evidence of excellence in teaching
  • Discussion of the peer review process:
    • critical elements needed for peer review
    • feedback needed from the review process

 

3:00–3:30pm

Group Discussions

  • Enhancement of drafts by group discussion of:
    • teaching pedagogy and learning outcomes
    • elements and specific goals of individual course portfolios
  • Conversion of revised draft into a one-page poster of key elements and goals

 

Conversations

  • Consideration of individual needs for course portfolio preparation and for peer review
  • Focus on addressing key questions for individual course portfolio preparation:
    • steps necessary to complete the elements of an outline from my poster from May 15th
    • materials (past grades, exams, etc.) or data (e.g. on students) required
    • assistance needed from others (e.g. technical support, data collection)
    • information from other course portfolios that would be helpful

  • Discussion of individual one-page posters
  • One-minute presentations and posting
  • One-minute comment/feedback

  • Introduction of examples of completed course portfolios from UNL
  • Discussion of selection options (3–5) based on:
    • accessiblity in diverse disciplines
    • specific components or topic
  • Individual selection of one course portfolio for examination and review
  • Overnight Charge:
    • to read, review and assess contents of UNL course portfolio

  • Discussion of needs for facilitation of course portfolio preparation:
    • future group gatherings
    • individual partnerships
    • gathering of materials or data 
    • approval from human subjects 
  • Discussion of peer review process:
    • interest in formal and detailed review of other course portfolios
    • review partnerships
