Candidate Requirements (Who Can Take the Exam)

Candidates must :

  1. Be non-native speakers of English. (Definition of non-native speakers: Parents did not use English when communicating with the candidates in childhood.)
  2. Be currently enrolled as a graduate student in an IU academic department.
  3.  
    1. Meet the minimum TOEFL requirements within the past two years, OR
    2. Have successfully completed the Indiana English Proficiency Exam, OR
    3. Have taken the Indiana English Proficiency Exam and completed successfully all assigned T101 courses.
  4. Have a memo from the academic department which intends to hire them.
