Little 500

2009 DG team

In 2009, DG's Little 500 team started in 7th place and finished in 6th, but was competitive all the way and led the race along the way.

The Little 500 is the premier intramural collegiate cycling event in the nation. Steeped in tradition and high on enthusiasm, this race and the surrounding weekend activities have earned the reputation of being the best of its kind anywhere in the world. Teams of four ride laps around a quarter-mile cinder track and exchange their bike to a teammate once too tired to continue. The race places fraternities and sororities, residence halls and independent teams in a battle for the ultimate bragging rights of Little 500 winner.

THE 2010 RACE
Joining returning riders for the 2010 race will be rookies Krista Spore, Emily Srodon, Jamie Ayers, and Abbey Pence. You can follow the team throughout the year on Twitter: DeeGeeCycling.

THE 2009 RACE
Delta Gamma started the race in 7th position and stayed in the top 10 teams throughout the race. At times the team led the race. With fewer than 10 laps remaining, the DG rider took a fall, quickly recovered, and resumed racing. However, the fall meant the team was no longer in contention. They finished 6th, right behind Kappa and Theta. Pi Beta Phi won the race for the first time.

The 2009 fraternity pair was Sigma Pi.

THE 2008 RACE

The 2008 DG team, which won the race for the first time in chapter and race history, started from the center of the front row -- in the #2 position, behind Teter, which was on the pole. Other teams in the top five were Kappa Delta, Wing It, and Pi Beta Phi. Theta started in 6th, and Kappa, with only three riders, started 10th.

The Delta Gamma team rode a steady race, rarely dropping out of the top five.

The IU Foundation has posted slideshows of the men's and the women's races on its website. Visit: IUF Slideshow.

Going into the 2009 race, Delta Gamma ranked 4th in all-time women's race results, behind Theta, Kappa, and AGD. The chapter had participated in 19 of the 21 races. It had finished in the top 10, 14 times, and the average place per years was 8th.
