My colleagues and I have responsibility for a diverse array of programs, services, and activities that transcend campus, academic, and administrative boundaries. Our mission is to serve as an effective advocate for underrepresented students, faculty, and staff and to provide programs and services that promote excellence through diversity, equity, and culture at Indiana University.

Upcoming deadlines: fellowships, scholarships, internships


IU students being sought to serve as mentors for Spring Shadow Program. The Office of Community and School Partnerships is seeking IU students to serve as mentors for its Spring Shadow Program. The program was developed to give high school students a realistic college experience while classes are in session to better prepare them for the rigors of college life. Participants will join their mentors, attending classes, staying in campus residence halls, participating in various activities, and interacting with university students and staff members. You may choose to participate in any of the three sessions: March 28-30, April 4-6, and April 11-13, 2010. E-mail kmorris@indiana.edu for details.

WTIU–Indiana University Television presents Black History Month 2010

Black History Month at IU features Marc Lamont Hill and Bill T. Jones–and much more!
FASE Black History Month Art Fair, Feb. 10
Theme: Expressions of the Soul. Submissions may include ceramic art, paintings, photography, conscious rap, dance, spoken word, singing, and musical performance. Bloomington community members and IU students, faculty, and staff are welcome to submit (deadline Feb. 8). Special appearance by IU Football Coach Bill Lynch, who will speak on behalf of the Monroe County Heroes Campaign. Donations will be accepted for both local and Haitian relief efforts. Help for Haiti

Cram the Container for Haiti
IU will send a cargo container to Haiti with generous donations from Bloomington campus and community. Final drop-off and loading of container at South Concourse of Memorial Football Stadium, accessible from 17th St. and Gate 5: Wed., Feb. 10, from 2-7pm (for campus) and Sat., Feb. 13, from 9am-4pm (for community). See list for high-priority items.

Books without borders: silent auction for Haiti Soleil
You can help Haiti Soleil rebuild a Haitian community library and cultural center on Sat., Feb. 13, from 2-5pm. Silent auction items include many objects from Haiti (Haitian market scene painting, carved sculpture, decorative pillow cases); Ghana (batik wall hangings); Benin (traditional embroidered dresses); India (batik skirt, large hand-embroidered tablecloth); Ethiopia (shawls); Morocco (scarves); books, ceramics, plus other crafts from Ecuador and Nicaragua. The event will also feature poetry, food, and music from Haiti.

International/Caribbean Benefit Dinner

Imagine Haitian Arts and Coffee Evening
An arts and coffee night will be held on Fri., Mar. 5 from 4-6pm at the Dowling International Center (111 S. Jordan Ave. in Bloomington). There will be arts, crafts, and baked goods for sale as well as coffee. There will be music and information on reforestation in Haiti.

Haiti dedicated Web site
A Web site to serve as a clearinghouse for Haiti earthquake educational and fundraising activities in Bloomington, as well as information about aid to Haiti, is active at www.indiana.edu/~haiti/. Student and community groups are encouraged to submit events and announcements to the site. For more information, call 812-855-9097 or e-mail clacs@indiana.edu.

IU offers cargo ship for Haiti donations
With the Haitian infrastructure badly damaged by the earthquake, IU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies sought means to ship donated supplies to the country. The IU School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation offered a 20-foot cargo ship.

The IU Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) is serving as a collection site for Haiti relief items. CLACS noted that monetary donations to reputable organizations will be of greatest help during the initial period of trauma relief. Read how you can donate items or money to help strengthen relief efforts.
