IU Asian Culture Center (ACC) happenings in March
ACC's Over A Cup of Tea presents: Bordered nations, borderless oppressions: When ethno-, racio-, and media-scapes collide in India by Radhika Parameswaran, Professor at the IU School of Journalism This presentation will connect and analyze multi-sited ethnic and racial experiences and media discourses of consent and dissent to challenge our understanding of race, ethnicity, and caste in the context of globalization and multicultural imaginings of nation. The presentation will take off from discussion of the Indian immigrant community in Australia as well as African and African-American tourists, workers, and students in India.
Postponed until later date due to inclement weather Join the Asian Culture Center, India Studies, and Indian Student Association in celebration of Holi! We will be celebrating the ancient Indian festival involving cultural performances and entertainment, traditional food, and, of course, a color fight! Holi is often referred to as the "Festival of Colors." Groups of friends gather to throw brightly colored water and powder over each other. It is a joyful event where all those participating will expect to become very messy, but activities are all conducted in a light-hearted manner and seen as an opportunity to make up with friends and relatives that have become strained. Be sure to wear clothing that is appropriate and that you don't mind getting color on!
ACC's Monday Table Topic presents: "Employment commitment: A comparison between Asian and Western countries"
