Black Graduate Student Association to host a practice research presentation forum The IU Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) is hosting a presentation forum on Saturday, April 7, 2012, from 10am-2pm in the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center Bridgwaters Lounge. Students are encouraged to sign up for a space to practice an upcoming research presentation (or even simply talk through concepts in a course project or dissertation) and receive feedback from other graduate students. This is a good opportunity to test out how well you are able to explain your work to people outside of your field (as well as a few people in your field). Even if you don't want to present, it's a good chance to learn about what type of research people do in other programs. Faculty and staff members are welcome to attend and give feedback to student presenters!
Purpose: The goal of the presentation forum is for graduate students to have the opportunity to (a) practice their presentation skills and ability to explain their research ideas to others, and (b) receive constructive and positive feedback. Structure: Those interested in presenting should sign up for a 30- or 45-minute time slot, depending on the type of presentation (any format: poster, lecture, paper reading, Powerpoint, panel, etc.) to be practiced. Anyone who signs up for a time slot, must present something during the timeslot AND stay for the presentation that follows. Those who are there to view your presentation (both students and faculty are invited) will provide you with verbal and written feedback. At minimum, your time commitment as a presenter would be 1 hour.
Participants: Sign-Up: To sign up, send an e-mail to Mahauganee Shaw at shawmd@indiana.edu with your preferred time slot and the title of your presentation and/or your topic. To make it easy, just copy and paste the info below into an e-mail and fill in the slots:
