14th Annual Women in Science Research Conference

The IU Office for Women's Affairs (OWA) invites women researchers to participate in the 14th Annual Women in Science Research Conference on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the IMU Alumni Hall from 9am-4pm.

The conference provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate women students in the natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, and technology fields to showcase their research by giving poster presentations about their work. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best undergraduate and graduate poster presentations in each of the following categories: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Technology. First place winners will receive $100; second place winners will receive $75. This is a fantastic opportunity for community building and professional development in a familiar setting, which will enhance graduate school or employment opportunities.

Types of research posters accepted include those that present:

  • Research being done in a lab on campus
  • Key findings from a research paper written for a class
  • Conclusions drawn based on a literature review
  • A draft of the presenter's dissertation proposal
  • A plan for an upcoming research project or results from a past research project

Even if research is not finished, students are encouraged to present what they have so far! Team presentations are welcome.

A new session is available this year in which participants can learn more about career opportunities for women in science through an interactive panel of industry representatives and a networking session, facilitated by the Arts & Sciences Career Development Center.

The tentative schedule for the conference is as follows:

8am – Poster Registration
9-11:15am – Poster Judging and Presentations
11:30am-2pm – Luncheon, Keynote Speaker, and Awards (separate RSVP required)
2-4pm – Industry Career Panel and Networking (separate RSVP required)

There are two opportunities prior to the conference designed to help participants prepare posters and provide them with the necessary skills to create an effective CV or resume. Information regarding these workshops will be distributed to those registering for the conference.

The registration form, which must be completed by Friday, February 10, 2012, can be found at:
